STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) - The former CEO of the chemical company BASF, Martin Brudermüller, is the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Mercedes-Benz. The supervisory body elected the 63-year-old manager as the successor to Bernd Pischetsrieder (76) after the online general meeting on Wednesday, as the car manufacturer announced in Stuttgart. Brudermüller had previously been proposed for the position of CEO by the Supervisory Board and a year ago. His term of office at BASF in Ludwigshafen came to an end in April after six years.

Former BMW and VW boss Pischetsrieder had been a member of the Mercedes Supervisory Board since 2014. He was elected Chairman in 2021. The board oversees the management around CEO Ola Källenius. During Pischetsrieder's term of office, several strategically important decisions were made by the Stuttgart-based company, including the spin-off of Daimler Truck and the renaming of the former Daimler AG to Mercedes-Benz Group AG./jwe/DP/nas
