Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, announces that it has been awarded a major contract by Meridian Energy to build New Zealand's first large-scale grid-connected BESS (battery energy storage system).

Located at Ruakaka in the North Island, this 100 megawatt (MW) BESS will improve the stability of the national grid, and is the first stage of a project that will include the construction of a 130 MW solar farm co-located by Meridian Energy.

Saft is providing a fully integrated solution, including the supply of battery and power conversion equipment, installation, commissioning and 20 years of operational services. The BESS is scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2024.
