- Chairman Joon-yang Chung, emphasizes increased profitability for overall optimization at officer meeting

Chairman Joon-yang Chung hosted this year's last officer meeting on December 27th, thanking and encouraging all members for their best efforts in achieving higher cost reductions than the initial goal.

On that day, Chairman Chung also asked the POSCO Family to bring out its underlying strength to overcome next year's difficult economic situation which specialists forecast to be the worst to come.

Regarding risk management at all times, Chairman Chung said that in times of rapid changes, speed and risk must be managed efficiently and simultaneously, and to do this real-time management is necessary. He emphasized to not miss execution timing in order to ensure real-time management of cost reduction, quality and safety.

Also, he said that in 2012 POSCO will focus on paradigm shifts for cost reduction and carry out various profitability enhancement activities to expand business ranges, emphasizing the necessity of creating and implementing detailed criteria on technology development, new demand generation, investment cost reduction and investment performance improvement.

He also explained that the 3 Zero Campaign, which aims to cut all safety accident rates, facility breakdown rates and poor-quality product rates to zero, will be reflected in the profitability enhancement activities, and he requested the engineering division to move its focus to the cost-centered approach adding to the existing function-oriented approach.

In addition, Chairman Joon-yang Chung asked to execute the profitability enhancement activities with the goal of overall optimization throughout the company, and said that he will discuss ways to compensate and motivate employees with the labor-management council and labor union for the increased profitability results, and more extensive support for voluntary participation of employees will be provided.
