Biofuels Digest, one of the leading online news
titles in the bioenergy field, recently reviewed
the world's 'hottest' companies in the industry
and ranked Neste Oil in the 25th spot for
2011-2012 at the end of December last year. This
was a step up, as Neste Oil had previously been
ranked 29th.
Biofuels Digest also publishes a list of the Top
100 People in bioenergy and ranked Neste Oil's
President & CEO, Matti Lievonen, 8th in the
industry, based on votes cast by Biofuels Digest
readers and the magazine's Editorial Board.
Biofuel Digest says that Neste Oil's good ranking
is based on our leading global role as a producer
of renewable diesel, with capacity rising to 2
million t/a last year. Neste Oil's major
achievements in the bioenergy field have been
somewhat overshadowed in the public eye by
concerns about the use of palm oil as a raw
material for producing renewable diesel, however,
according to Biofuels Digest. The magazine's
readers nevertheless wanted to recognize what
Neste Oil has achieved in the renewable fuels
industry and the completion of the company's
massive investment program in renewables.
"Being ranked as one of the leading players in
the bioenergy field is an excellent achievement
for us," says Hanna Maula, Neste Oil's Director,
Corporate Communications. "It also recognizes the
work that Neste Oil has done in the field and the
fact that the major investments that we have made
in premium-quality renewable diesel capacity have
not gone unnoticed in the industry. Our position
as a pioneer in the field was further
strengthened in 2011 when our NExBTL renewable
aviation fuel began to be used on regular
scheduled flights in Europe. Neste Oil is one of
the few companies worldwide capable of producing
renewable aviation fuel on a commercial scale
today."
A total of 37 companies on the Biofuels Digest
list come from the US and 13 from elsewhere. The
magazine's ranking was based on votes cast by a
100-person international panel (60%) and over
130,000 votes cast by readers of the online
editions of Biofuels Digest and Renewable
Chemicals Digest (40%). Innovations and
achievements in developing bioenergy production
played a major role in deciding how people ranked
the over 1,000 companies involved.
