LEIPZIG/DRESDEN (dpa-AFX) - According to the trade union Verdi, around 600 employees have taken part in the warning strike at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports. The employees of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG are demanding an inflation adjustment of 3000 euros and a fixed amount of 650 euros more per month. They went on a 30-hour warning strike on Sunday.

Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG considers this to be incompatible with its economic situation. According to a spokesperson, all passenger flights have been canceled since the start of the warning strike - more than 40 flights at Leipzig/Halle Airport and more than 20 flights at Dresden Airport. Airlines have had to divert several flights to other airports.

The strike is to last until midnight on Tuesday. Verdi hopes that the employers' side will now move and that further action will not be necessary. Both sides have already agreed on a further negotiation date on February 8.

The airports are assuming that they will be able to resume regular operations from Tuesday. However, this may "take some time". The airports are hoping for a smooth transition./djj/DP/men
