BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The sporting goods retailer Intersport wants to have its own brands produced less in the Far East and more in Europe and also in North Africa. This should alleviate supply chain problems and dependencies, as Frank Geisler, member of the board at Intersport Germany, told the "Heilbronner Stimme" (Monday). "When it comes to relocating production to Europe, so-called nearshoring, we are not only concerned with faster deliveries and reactions, but also with greater independence from Asia, geopolitical reasons such as war and supporting production in Europe," explained the manager.

He cited the example of a shoe factory in Ukraine, which was opened there before the start of the war and is still in operation. Private label socks, gloves and bandages are also no longer only produced in the Far East. Production is being set up in Romania, Bulgaria and other Balkan states. "We are also thinking about Africa," explained Geisler. "Especially in North Africa, there is "a certain textile know-how from tradition"."

The fashion group Hugo Boss also wants to have more production in Europe again, as well as in America. The company recently stated that it wants to produce more where the goods are sold. Shipping goods from one continent to another is no longer in keeping with the times. Geopolitical tensions and the resulting attempt to prevent dependencies are also a motive./bf/DP/zb
