The European Space Agency ESA awards a major contract to T-Systems.

The IT services subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom announced on Tuesday that it will manage the data of the Copernicus satellite program in its data centers. The deal is worth 150 million euros and will run for six years with an option to extend for a further four years.

As part of Copernicus, the ESA collects numerous satellite data from the Earth's surface. This data is processed and evaluated and can be used to optimize the irrigation and fertilization of agricultural land, among other things. According to T-Systems, it has been operating parts of the Copernicus infrastructure since 2013. As part of the new contract, the company is also supplying tools for analyzing the data volumes.
