On January19, 2023, Chesapeake Energy Corp announced that on January 18, 2023, it had agreed to sell part of its operations in south Texas to private equity-owned WildFire Energy for $1.43 billion in cash. The Company stated that it has been trying to heed calls by Kimmeridge Energy Management, which has pushed the Company to move away from oil drilling in favor of low-cost natural gas production.
