Sept 13 (Reuters) - Caesars Entertainment paid millions of dollars to hackers who broke into the company's systems and threatened to leak data, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

The company's shares were down 2.7% at market close.

The hackers, allegedly known as Scattered Spider or UNC 3944, started targeting Caesars as early as Aug. 27, according to the people.

Caesars did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Earlier this week, MGM Resorts International said it had shut down some of its computer systems due to cybersecurity issues. (Reporting by Seher Dareen in Bengaluru; Editing by Shailesh Kuber)
