German chemicals group BASF announced Thursday that it has appointed Christine Grosse Lembeck, an in-house executive, to head up its recycling business for electric vehicle batteries.

In her new role, Christine Grosse Lembeck will be responsible for all aspects of the value chain, which extends from battery manufacturers and battery cells to carmakers.

'Battery recycling is a key step in the current transformation towards electromobility', she explained.

"It is essential to keep critical raw materials such as lithium, nickel or cobalt within a local chain, while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of batteries", she added.

Since joining BASF in 2012, Christine Grosse Lembeck had held various positions within different branches and business lines of the Group, from sales to strategy to marketing.
