The iPhone is still one of the most popular smartphones in the world. The device is also considered the best on the market by true Apple fans. And that's not without reason, of course, because the iPhone has a lot of advantages. But did you already know these 18 iPhone hacks?

1. Take photos hands-free

Sometimes you want to take a picture from a distance, making it difficult to click the button on your screen. Apple has a handy solution for that. Using your iPhone's earbuds, or any headset that has a working button on the cable, you can in fact take a picture by pressing the volume button.

So, for example, you can take photos of yourself where your arm is not in the photo and it even looks like you didn't take them yourself. Handy!

2. Taking a photo while filming

This second hack also has to do with taking photos with your iPhone.(By the way, did you know that you can earn money with the photos taken with your iPhone? You can find more information about that here). Namely, you can take a picture at the same time while you are filming.

You do this by clicking on the button that appears to the left of the video button when you are filming. However, you have to take into account that you are compromising on quality. The highest quality photos are still taken in the photo mode of your iPhone. But when you want to take a quick photo but don't want to stop your video recording, this is a practical hack.

3. Focus your camera without touching your screen

IPhone is known for its focused photos, where the subject of your photo is sharp but the background is blurred.(Learn more about the camera of the latest iPhone, the iPhone x, here.) But to take advantage of this feature, of course, you have to select the right subject so that what you want is sharp and the rest is blurry. To do that, you have to click on your screen on the subject of your photo, but you can do it differently via this hack.

If you click on your screen for a long time in photo mode, you will get a box that says "AF Locked. This means that the setting is retained. You can then move your camera as much as you want, your set focus will remain. So you can always take sharp photos with your iPhone without having to refocus every time. A hack that can save you a lot of time.

4. Taking pictures when your memory is full

The last camera-related hack has to do with your memory. When it's full, you can no longer take pictures with your iPhone's regular camera app. But through this hack, you can still take and save photos on your device.

The trick is in the other apps you can use to take photos. That's because when your memory is full, you can still take photos in apps like Facebook and Twitter. Photos you take there are automatically saved on your camera roll, even if you run out of memory, so to speak.

5. Creating more memory

The above hack is obviously useful for a while, but at some point you will need to free up some more memory. A lack of memory is, of course, one of the biggest problems with smartphones, and thus also with iPhones. But there is a hack for that too with Apple's iPhone that will make your life a lot easier.

If you press the "power" button for a few seconds, you will see a slider that allows you to turn off your iPhone. If, instead of the slider and turning off your smartphone at that time, you press the 'home' button, your cell phone erases the RAM memory. This is the memory used by apps that are working. By clearing this regularly, you get more free memory on your iPhone and thus can store more photos and other files.

Furthermore, Apple also has a feature on iPhone that automatically creates more space on your smartphone. In photo and camera settings, you can check the "Optimize iPhone Storage" feature. This saves photos and videos in lower quality on your device, while saving them in full resolution in iCloud. So you save space on your iPhone, but don't have to sacrifice photo quality, as you can still download these photos from iCloud, of course.

Another thing that can help create more memory on your iPhone is to delete Safari history. This in fact requires a lot of memory and is basically not necessary. To do this, open Safari and then click on "History" in the menu bar and then select the "Delete History" option. By doing this, you can easily create extra space.

Finally, it can also help to disable double saving of photos in HDR mode. When you take photos in HDR, your iPhone automatically saves two versions of each photo: one in HDR quality and one in the normal, lower quality. You can turn this off by turning off "Save Normal Photo" in your photo and camera settings. This will cause your iPhone to save only the HDR photo, so you won't waste unnecessary memory on your device.

6. Faster typing

Apple also offers a few options for faster typing. The next hack for iPhones is one that is especially useful for those who, even if on the smartphone, like to write correctly.

Namely, when you have typed a sentence, you can double-click the space bar. This will automatically add a period and a space to your sentence and capitalize the next one. It seems simple and not super handy, but once you get used to it, you can type a lot faster.

7. Quick delete text

Another simple hack few people know about. If you want to quickly delete a large block of text, you can use this hack to delete all your typed text at once.

All you have to do to do this is give your iPhone a good shake until "Restore typing" appears. With one click, you can then delete everything you typed. Do you accidentally delete an entire text but want it back? Then you can also shake your iPhone until "Retype" appears and you will get back everything you just deleted.

If you find this function especially annoying, you can easily turn it off in your settings. You do this by going to 'General' in 'Settings' and then to 'Accessibility'. There you can disable the function called 'Recovery by shaking'.

8. Getting to a website faster

The next hack relates to Safari.(Which browser is actually the best, you can read here.) In Safari, you can actually gain seconds by clicking the button next to the space bar when you type in the address of a site. You will then get the most common extensions, which you can add to your link with one click.

So you no longer have to type '.com' or '.be' but with one click you have all these extensions at your fingertips. Okay, it won't save you much time, but every little helps when you need to look something up quickly on your iPhone.

9. Typing in capslock

Just like on your computer, you can type in capslock on your iPhone. Sometimes you want to convey something more clearly or simply make a word stand out more. In that case, capslock can certainly come in handy.

To type in capslock, you must double-click the shift key. By double-clicking you will not type a capital letter once, but all your letters will be typed in caps. To disable this feature again press the shift key again.

10. Call someone back quickly

If you were on the phone with someone and need to reach that same person again later, you can do so quickly and easily with one simple click on your iPhone. That way you don't have to start scrolling through your contact list, but can immediately reach the person you need with one simple click.

You do this by simply going to the call menu and then not typing in the number, but just clicking the big button with your phone. You then automatically dial the last number you called.

11. Faster loading

This is a slightly older hack that is not only applicable to the iPhone. When you need to leave quickly, but your smartphone battery is running low, this hack can definitely come in handy.

The hack is actually quite simple. When charging, it's best to put your iPhone (or other smartphone) in airplane mode. This means it doesn't consume any energy on wifi or mobile data and all the energy is used for charging. So your battery will fill up a lot faster and you'll be good to go for a while afterwards.

12. Adjust vibrations

Nowadays almost everyone uses the vibrate function of his or her smartphone and sound notifications are used less and less. That you can adjust the sounds of these notifications is common knowledge, but that you can also adjust the vibrations of these notifications to your liking is often overlooked.

So you can set the vibration of certain contacts. So that you immediately know who has sent you a message. People you reply to pretty quickly, such as your parents or your lover, you can give them a personal vibration this way and so you immediately know that they are trying to reach you.

You do this by looking in your contacts for the person whose vibration you want to change. Next, click on 'Edit' and then go to 'Text tone'. Within this menu, you then click on 'Vibration'. There you can then choose from a whole range of vibration patterns. But you can also create your own pattern by checking 'Create a new vibration'. Creating your own vibration pattern is easy and can be done quickly. You just press short for a short vibration and long for a long one. When you are done with your pattern you can give it a name and save it.

13. Timer to music

Do you like to fall asleep with a little music playing in the background, but don't want the music to keep playing all night? Then Apple also has a solution for this. You can set a timer to turn off your music after a certain time.

You can do this by going to 'When timer ends' in your timer app and then checking 'Stop playback'. This will cause the music you play with Apple Music and Spotify to stop playing the moment the timer ends, so you won't be woken up in the middle of the night by a fierce song.(You can read more about Spotify's success on the stock market here.)

14. Turning your iPhone into a level

Another feature few people know exists. IPhones have a built-in level. You can find it in the compass app.

When you swipe left in the compass app, you will be taken to this level feature. When you then place your iPhone against or on something, the app will let you know if it is level. A feature that can definitely come in handy when you want to hang a frame on the wall or nail a shelf, for example.

15. Erase digits in calculator

One of the most useful apps on the iPhone is undoubtedly the calculator. But it quickly happens that you type a number too many or make a mistake. You can easily correct this without having to re-enter the entire sum.

You can delete one (or more) digits by swiping the number at the top to the right, then the last digit disappears. If you swipe back to the left, the digits return. So this allows you to quickly continue typing without having to delete the entire digit and start over.

16. Resize keyboard or screen

Smartphone screens are getting bigger and bigger, so the iPhone couldn't stay behind either. Such a larger screen offers some advantages, of course, but it also makes it more difficult to type. You can make this easier by resizing your screen.

You can resize your keyboard by pressing the globe button on your keyboard and then you can choose whether you want the resized keyboard along the left or right side. You can do the same for your full screen. You do that by pressing the home button twice. This will lower your screen down so you can easily reach the apps in the top row.

17. Testing the signal strength

The iPhone also has a hidden hack that allows you to figure out how strong your signal is. You do this by calling the number *3001#12345#*. This will cause you to see a number appear in the upper left corner. This number represents the signal strength.

This signal strength is expressed in decibels and is always negative. The lower the number, the better your strength. For example, if it says -50 then you have a very good signal strength and you can easily make phone calls and even watch movies in HD. On the other hand, if your signal strength is -100 or more, then you have a poor connection and phone calls will be more difficult.

If you always want to see how strong the signal strength is, you can also set this. You do this by after you dial the code, you have to hold down the power button until you see the slider. Then release the power button and press the home button until you are sent to your home page again. From then on the signal strength will remain in the top left corner. If you want to remove this back go the same way.

18. Find apps quickly

If you have an iPhone with a lot of memory you may have collected a huge number of apps. This can sometimes take some time to find a specific app. But the iPhone has a hack for this as well.

Namely, you can drag down the center of your screen. You then get a search bar in which you can type the name of the app you are looking for and find the right app faster. Another tip that can save you a few seconds of time.
