NEW $870,000 PIPELINE TO EXTEND WATER SERVICE FOR DELAWARE TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (January 6, 2016) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to install new water lines to a pair of Delaware Township communities with a history of inadequate water service. The approximately $870,000 pipeline is funded by Pennsylvania American Water, which partnered with Delaware Township officials and local property owners to make the project possible.

The existing water system serves approximately 70 households in the Meadows of Watsontown housing development. A nearby residential community, called "The Crest" with approximately 30 households, relies on the same water system, which has experienced frequent outages over the years. When the new pipeline is completed, both communities will be served by Pennsylvania American Water's Milton system and its White Deer Water Treatment Plant.

"Thanks to the coordination and support of township leaders, this project is an excellent example of a public- private partnership that will bring a permanent solution to residents who have struggled for too long with unreliable water service," said John Pick, network supervisor for Pennsylvania American Water.

Starting this week, Pennsylvania American Water's contractor Gutelus Excavating Inc. will install approximately 11,500 feet of ductile iron pipe along Seagrave Drive and Spring Lake Crest. Delaware Township helped secured easements for properties along the route, so that construction will stay out of the roadway as much as possible to help reduce project costs.

In addition to supplying drinking water for the two communities, another eight homeowners along the pipeline route plan to tap into the new water main and abandon their existing wells. The project is expected to be completed and residents receiving water service from the new line by the first quarter of 2016.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 2.2 million people. Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest and most geographically diverse publicly traded

U.S. water and wastewater utility company. With headquarters in Voorhees, N.J., the company employs approximately 6,800 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, wastewater and other related services to an estimated 15 million people in 47 states and parts of Canada.
