Air Liquide announces that it has been selected for a first demonstration project in Japan, aimed at producing low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia using autothermal reforming (ATR) technology.

"ATR is one of the most suitable approaches for large-scale low-carbon hydrogen production units", it explains, adding that it can capture up to 99% of the carbon in particularly integrated industrial installations.

Its Air Liquide Engineering & Construction division will now deploy this technology in a pilot project owned and operated by Inpex Corporation in Kashiwazaki, a city on the west coast of the main island of Honshu.
