The Labor Department announced that 238,000 new U.S. jobless claims were registered for the week ending June 10, down by 5,000 on the previous week, which was revised upwards from 242,000 to 243,000.

The four-week moving average - more representative of the underlying trend - came in at 232,750, up 5,500 on the previous week.

Finally, the number of people receiving regular benefits rose by 15,000 to 1,828,000 during the week of June 3, the most recent period available for this statistic.
