PRESS RELEASE

17/ 12/ 2015

NOS LAUNCHES APP FOR SUBTITLING PROGRAMMES LIVE The TV subtitling App is a socially inclusive solution provided free of charge by NOS that allows users to access subtitles in real time for programmes being broadcast by means of synchronisation with the channel's teletext service.

NOS has just launched this TV application, which provides subtitles for all programmes on live TV with teletext, automatically at the bottom of the screen.

The inclusive app was created with the goal of offering NOS customers with special needs, in particular those who are hard of hearing, with a way of accessing multimedia contents by providing them with subtitles from the teletext services of the Portuguese channels RTP1, RTP2, SIC, TVI and RTP3, and the children's channels Disney Channel and Disney Júnior.

By accessing the TV Subtitling App, the customer can see which programmes are being broadcast in real time that are available at that particular moment.

Whenever the App is active, this is indicated at the top left hand side of the screen and the subtitles are shown at the bottom. Whenever there are no programmes with subtitles being broadcast, the application immediately informs the user.

The new application is available free of charge for all Iris customers. To access it, just go to the Apps area in the Iris Menu.

NOS at the service of social inclusion

The TV Subtitling App is just one of a number of services that NOS already provides for people with special needs.

To be noted is the fact that over and above this app now launched, NOS has a support line for customers with hearing difficulties (12472), accessible using the video interpreter system, and also provides invoices in braille for people with visual impairment on the Universal service.

NOS was also a pioneer in Portugal for providing films with audio description in its Videoclub. In addition to the script, the 30 or more films included in this selection, have sentences that describe each scene in terms of scenarios, costumes, facial expressions, body language, entry and exit of actors, among other relevant information, so that people with visual impairment have a fuller and richer experience watching the film.

This innovation from the audio description service in Portuguese is also used in the DVDs that NOS distributes, as well as subtitling in Portuguese and sign language. As part of this service, the DVD "The Birth of Christ" was the first live image film to be edited in Portugal with conditions of equal access for everyone.
