SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), today announced it was honored with an Electronic Products' Product of the Year award for its Virtex®-7 2000T FPGA, the world's first FPGA built using 2.5D Stacked Silicon Interconnect technology. This award recognizes Xilinx's leadership in programmable logic design and the development and deployment of Stacked Silicon Interconnect technology to enable not only the industry's highest capacity FPGA but also the world's largest IC with over 6.8 billion transistors, surpassing the industry record for number of transistors by 2X.

"We are honored that the first Xilinx product built using our innovative 2.5D Stacked Silicon Interconnect technology has received the Product of the Year award from Electronic Products," said Liam Madden, Corporate Vice President, FPGA Development and Silicon Technology. "By integrating multiple silicon die in a single package, we are able to deliver the Virtex-7 2000T device - the world's highest capacity FPGA. This prestigious award underscores the hard work and technical achievements by everyone who has worked on this exciting new technology."

The editors of Electronic Products - a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers - evaluated thousands of products launched in 2011. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance. The Virtex-7 2000T FPGA demonstrated success in the Digital ICs category by offering users the capacity, performance and power typically only found in large capacity ASICs, with the added benefits of re-programmability.

"We selected the Virtex-7 2000T FPGA for this year's Product of the Year award, recognizing Xilinx as the first FPGA company to develop and implement 2.5D IC stacking, offering its customers twice the capacity of competing devices and leaping ahead of what Moore's Law could otherwise achieve in a monolithic 28nm FPGA," said Jim Harrison, editor of Electronic Products. "We recognize that the Virtex-7 2000T device marks a major milestone in Xilinx's history of innovation and industry collaboration deploying its Stacked Silicon Interconnect technology that offers customers capacities that otherwise wouldn't be possible in an FPGA for at least another process generation."

The 2011 Product of the Year Awards were announced in the January 2012 issue of Electronic Products with a cover feature and a brief description of each product. Additionally, the winning products appear on Electronic Products' website: http://www2.electronicproducts.com/productyear.aspx.

2011 marks the 36th annual Electronic Products' "Product of the Year" Awards, which recognizes the best products in the industry.
