(Silver Spring, Md. ) Today Discovery Communications announced the formation of a new Digital Strategy & Emerging Businesses team charged with incubating and developing new digital businesses and to be led by Gabe Vehovsky.

As Executive Vice President, Digital Strategy & Emerging Businesses, Vehovsky will lead the newly formed team in identifying digital businesses that will satisfy Discovery's mission to delight audiences and increase viewer engagement across platforms. Part think tank and part product and partnership development, Vehovsky's unit will manage a carefully selected pipeline of new digital initiatives, working in conjunction with Discovery's leadership. The Digital Strategy & Emerging Businesses team is specifically structured to foster an entrepreneurially minded approach to identifying and nurturing business opportunities worth investing in.

"Gabe is a true asset to Discovery, and I am delighted that he will be bringing his digital and business development expertise to this new role with the company," said JB Perrette, Chief Digital Officer, Discovery Communications.

"Under Gabe's leadership, and with the support of a talented team, Discovery will continue to deliver innovative experiences that super-serve our millions of fans online and beyond," added Kelly Day, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Digital Media & Commerce, Discovery Communications, to whom Vehovsky will report.

In his previous position as Executive Vice President, Digital Media Strategy & Client Solutions, Vehovsky was responsible for the development and execution of strategies and cutting-edge advertising opportunities designed to maximize revenue for Discovery's portfolio of websites, including HowStuffWorks.com and network sites such as Discovery.com and TLC.com. Utilizing research and analytics to measure audience behavior and engagement, Gabe oversaw the team that creates custom programs designed to provide a rich user experience that is designed and developed with key partner needs in mind. Vehovsky came to Discovery as Executive Vice President of Strategy & Research for HowStuffWorks.com, where he played a key role in taking the site from a small start-up to a premiere online destination, with the company's acquisition by Discovery Communications in 2007.

Before overseeing strategy & research for HowStuffWorks.com, Vehovsky served as a research analyst for The Convex Group, the media and technology company that owned HowStuffWorks.com until its sale to Discovery. Vehovsky started his career at Creative-Rain, LLC, a consultancy focused on brand positioning and Web strategy.

As he assumes his new role, Vehovsky will continue to work with Discovery's advertising sales team and key clients to deliver innovative brand solutions. Vehovsky holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and an MBA from Georgia State University.
