Volkswagen's overall deliveries declined in the second quarter, but the number of all-electric vehicles increased slightly.

The German automobile manufacturer on Wednesday said for the quarter ended June overall deliveries fell 3.8% to 2.2 million. Deliveries for all-electric vehicles rose 0.1% to 180,800.

For the first half, all drive types deliveries in China fell 7.4%, but all-electric vehicles rose 45%.

Volkswagen's performance in China's internal combustion engine market was better than average during the first six months, it said.

"However, in a price-sensitive market environment, we don't expect an easy year," a spokesperson said.

The company lowered its sales margin late Tuesday, saying the possible closure of an Audi electric-vehicle plant in Brussels would have a significant effect on results.
