A team from Veidekke is today embarking on a six-week long trip to meet students at a number of secondary schools and upper secondary schools around the country.

The goal is for more people to get to know construction and construction trades and our industry. The first stop is Ra secondary school in Larvik, while the last stop is Kirkenes upper econdary school in mid-February.

Over the next few weeks, a large red squad car (bus) will roll into many schoolyards and invite students to get to know vocational subjects and job opportunities in the construction industry. The young people will meet professionals and be introduced to various professions in an interactive and playful way. They will be able to try themselves as machine operators in a simulator, and there will be competitions that are relevant to the various professional areas.

Around 40 schools will be visited, and as far as we know, this is the first time something like this has been carried out in this country. We want to give the young people a pleasant encounter with the building and construction industry, insight into which specialist areas exist and, not least, which job opportunities these provide. Most people are familiar with the carpentry and concrete trades, but we find that many are unfamiliar with some of our other important occupational groups, particularly within construction engineering. We now want to do something about this, says Gro Hege Haraldsen Nordbye, HR director at Veidekke Infrastruktur.

Veidekke has for many years carried out targeted recruitment work through the apprentice scheme and has around 200 apprentices in Norway. These are important to the company because they are the skilled workers of the future and because the young people need the necessary practice to be able to complete their vocational training.

We know that the need for information is great among many young people who are going to choose an education and career path. The schools' advisers do a very important job, but we believe that it can also be of great value that we, as a nationwide contractor, speak directly to the young people. And since many pupils cannot come to us, we travel to them with Volvo as a partner. Our goal is that more people choose construction engineering after this, and we hope that even more motivated apprentices apply to Veidekke, concludes Haraldsen Nordbye.

Veidekke has apprentices in the following trades: Road and construction workers, asphalt workers, mountain and tunnel workers, electricians, construction machine drivers, industrial mechanics, professional laboratory technicians, construction machine mechanics, automation technicians, road operation and road maintenance workers, professional drivers, production technicians, mainland well drillers, signal fitters, track fitters, energy fitters (KL ), concrete workers, carpenters, bricklayers and tilers, plumbers, roof and membrane roofers and landscape gardeners.
