UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) and its family of companies, including UnitedHealthcare, Ingenix, OptumHealth and Prescription Solutions, are donating $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist people in Mississippi, Missouri and Arkansas who may have been affected by the recent tornadoes.

UnitedHealth Group participates in the American Red Cross's Annual Disaster Giving Program. The donation enables the Red Cross to provide additional support for shelters, meals, and clean-up and comfort kits, as well as mental health support for families in their communities.

?Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who suffered such tragic losses of life and property in this disaster,? said Kate Rubin, UnitedHealth Group vice president of Social Responsibility. ?We recognize the Red Cross as an organization that can immediately have a positive impact for the people affected, and we want to support it as it assists communities affected by the tornadoes.?

People interested in providing additional assistance can contact the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help provide food, shelter and counseling for people affected by disasters like the recent tornadoes by logging onto RedCross.org or by calling 1-800 RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) to make a donation. Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may also be sent to a local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C., 20013.
