Gareth Bale couldn't hide his disappointment after we suffered a dramatic late loss against City on Sunday.

The winger scored another memorable goal as we hauled ourselves back from 2-0 down to 2-2 in a Premier League thriller at the Etihad Stadium.

Jermain Defoe quickly pulled a goal back after Samir Nasri and Joleon Lescott had seemingly put City in charge and then Gareth curled home a wonderful strike from 25 yards for 2-2.

We had the better of the play and the chances after that and a golden opportunity to win the match in the first minute of added time.

Gareth zipped down the left and crossed for Jermain in front of an empty net but the striker couldn't quite reach the ball and it went agonisingly wide.

Just as that sunk in, City knocked the ball forward, Ledley King brought down Mario Balotelli and the Italian picked himself to slot home the winner from the penalty spot.

"Everyone's devastated," said Gareth in the tunnel at the Etihad. "We can take heart from the performance, but we all feel sick that we've lost the game that way.

"I don't think we deserved to lose the game.

"We showed our character to come from 2-0 down and I thought we should have won the game. We can't quite believe it."

Gareth admitted he thought Jermain had scored as he slid in to meet his cross.

"I was waiting for the ball to hit the back of the net," he said.

"For them to then go up the other end, get a penalty and win the game was a massive blow.

"That's football. It bites back when you think you are on top. I thought we were fantastic and we'll pick ourselves up."
