Spurs Ladies avenged a heavy defeat against Millwall Lionesses with a thrilling extra time win in the quarter-final of London Cup on Sunday.

The ladies were beaten 4-0 by the Lionesses in December and the teams met again in Beckenham for a chance to take on Charlton in the last four of the competition.

It looked comfortable for Spurs as they raced into a 2-0 lead only for Millwall to haul themselves back into the game in the second half.

It was touch and go in the added periods and goalkeeper Jo Ayre made a key save before Wendy Martin grabbed the winner from Miranda Hall's corner with five minutes remaining.

Miranda - pictured - was involved in all three goals.

So it's Charlton next - with Super League giants Arsenal or MSA of the Greater London Women's League in the other semi-final.

Millwall Lionesses 2-3 Spurs

Spurs started well and missed early chances before Miranda Hall's shot was deflected to Sam Pittuck, who volleyed home from close range for 1-0 after 25 minutes.

The team was then rocked by an injury to midfielder Emma Sherwood, who clattered into the advertising boards. She was stretchered off but thankfully suffered only muscle damage and will return to action soon.

Miranda and Sam were involved again in an excellent second goal just before half-time. Bianca Baptiste allowed Miranda's pass to run to Sam, who played a one-two with Bianca before firing home her second for 2-0.

Spurs started well after the break but Millwall hit back for 2-1 in the 55th minute.

That kicked a recovery from the home side and they soon levelled matters with a header from a corner.

The rest of the tie was all Spurs. Jess Cheeseman struck the crossbar, Wendy Martin was denied by the home goalkeeper, who then got the better of Bianca one-on-one.

The game went into extra time and Spurs had the better chances but were indebted to Jo Ayre, who made a vital save one-on-one.

With just five minutes left, Miranda took a corner that was headed home by Wendy.

"I'm really proud of the team," said assistant manager Juan C. Amoros.

"Just one month ago we lost 4-0 against Millwall and the team has worked really hard since then.

"We want to keep growing and keep winning and to get to those goals, we know we have to continue working hard.

"The girls deserved their victory and now we'll face Charlton with plenty of confidence."
