Saturday's FA Cup third round tie represents the first time we've played Cheltenham in a competitive fixture.

Cheltenham beat Tranmere and Luton Town - both away, the picture above shows Darryl Duffy celebrating at Tranmere - in the first and second round respectively to earn this tie at the Lane.

The Robins are flying high in League Two. They are currently second behind Crawley Town thanks to a nine-match unbeaten run stretching back to October.

In fact, they have lost just one of their last 15 league games.

CHELTENHAM TOWN FC

Formed: 1887.

Nickname: The Robins.

Home ground: Whaddon Road (has since been renamed Abbey Business Stadium).

Manager: Mark Yates (he took charge two years ago having previously played for the club between 1999 and 2004).

- They finished 17th in League Two last season, but are title contenders this time around.

- Cheltenham did not turn professional until the 1930's and worked their way up to the Conference in 1985 before being relegated seven years later. They were promoted back to the Conference in 1997 under Steve Cotterill who is now manager at Nottingham Forest but only after Southern Football League Premier Division champions Gresley Rovers were unable to meet the required ground capacity for Conference membership.

- Under Cotterill, Cheltenham won the FA Trophy in 1999 and were promoted to the Football League for the first time in 1999 after winning the Football Conference. Cotterill would then take Cheltenham up to League One in 2002 after winning the play offs, before leaving to take over as manager of Stoke City.

- They were relegated the following season but were returned to League One in 2006 after winning the playoffs again. In 2009 they were relegated back to League Two.

- Bobby Gould, who managed Wimbledon to FA Cup glory in 1988, is arguably Cheltenham's highest profile managerial appointment after he took over in 2003 but left later that same year. Former West Ham and QPR midfielder Martin Allen (cousin of our former players Paul and Clive) and John Ward have also managed Cheltenham previously.

- Notable former players include Andy Gray (former Sky Sports pundit), Brett Angel (who would go on to play for Everton and Sunderland), Bob Taylor (former West Bromwich Albion striker) and Clive Walker (former Chelsea player).

- Cheltenham's record transfer fee for a player was £50,000 which they paid West Ham to secure the services of Grant McCann in January 2003. Their record transfer fee received was £400,000 when selling Steven Gillespie to Colchester United in June 2008.
