Ghosn fled to Beirut last month from Tokyo, where he had been awaiting trial on charges of financial misconduct.

This is the first time Ghosn has publicly defended himself since his initial arrest in November 2018. He has previously spoken in his defence in court and issued a video statement of his innocence.

Ghosn's lawyers criticised the car maker earlier on Wednesday, accusing it of using a "flawed, biased" internal probe to engineer his arrest.

The international legal team said in a statement that Nissan Motor Co. was trying to prevent Ghosn from more closely integrating the Japanese company and its French alliance partner Renault SA, which he also formerly headed.
