SPIE modernises medium-voltage switch gear in only 66 hours

Illingen, 7 January 2021 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, was contracted by a logistics company to modernise a medium-voltage switch gear at a transfer station.

Working hand in hand

The particularity this task was that it had to be carried out within 66 hours in order to minimise the necessary interruption during operations as far as possible. The experts from SPIE Buchmann, a subsidiary of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, worked in two shifts to ensure timely completion: 'between Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon, we replaced the entire energy supply for the site', explains Daniel Feuchtner, the project manager. 'In order to ensure completion within the prescribed time limit, we were present on site with a total of eight workers. The work was performed hand in hand, and the replacement of the equipment went smoothly thanks to the outstanding preliminary planning'. The scope of services included the removal of the old equipment, the installation of a double floor and the new 9-field switch gear, and the commissioning of the protective devices. At the same time, the 60-year-old, oil-insulated cables were connected to new plastic cables with the help of transition sleeves.

Trust-based collaboration for project success

The Project Manager at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa Daniel Feuchtner was thrilled by the efficient coordination and is proud of his team: 'our team carried out the necessary work masterfully and completed the challenging project within an extremely tight time frame. The good preparation and coordination with our customer during the works helped to ensure that everything worked as intended'. In completing the modernisation of the medium-voltage switch gear within just 66 hours, the multi-technical service provider did more than simply meet the expectations of the customer: 'we were able to convince our customer of our high quality standards, our broad technical expertise and our reliability', says a delighted Daniel Feuchtner. 'And we look forward to supporting our customer as a reliable service provider in future, too.'
