SGS : Opens New Laboratory for the Jewelry and Candlemaking Industries in Vietnam

With the opening of a new laboratory in Hai Phong, Vietnam, SGS has brought state-of-the-art compliance testing facilities to northern Vietnam.

Starting operations at the beginning of November 2016, the new facility currently focuses on providing testing services for the jewelry and candle making industries.

The new facility has been strategically positioned close to major centers of jewelry and candle manufacture. The laboratory offers a full range of testing services for both industries and will carry out both physical and chemical testing. During 2017, it is expected that the Hai Phong site will start issuing reports independently, will expand testing services for other products, including textile and garments, and will be recognized as an ISO 17025 accredited lab.

Currently, the laboratory offers a number of tests for the jewelry industry, including:

• Plating and coating adhesion
• Perspiration resistance
• Accelerated nickel leach
• Strength of jewelry assembly
• Stretch bracelet pull
• Torque testing for soldered or swedged joints
• Impact drop
• Stone adhesion clay
• Coating conductivity
• Sulfur or tellurium tarnish
• Ear post fusion
• Tarnish resistance
• Physical testing - ASTM F963
• Associated tests for lead, cadmium and nickel

For candle manufacturing, SGS at Hai Phong offers several tests, including:

• Burning
• Weight
• Dimension
• Sooting index
• Temperature record
• Flammability
• Thermal shock
• Safety labeling
• Lead in surface coating and metal wick
