Independent live testing of NovelSat's 3G-Sat modulation technology, NS3? has shown that, for the first time, broadcasting data via satellite can be accomplished at fibre level costs. The testing was conducted in collaboration with the leading satellite company SES (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) and Satellite Mediaport Services (SMS) of Rugby UK, a leading data services provider teleport. By combining NS3's? ability to increase data rates over DVB-S2's capabilities with the inherent low costs of an inclined orbit space segment, broadcasting data via satellite at fibre level broadcasting costs is now possible.

NS3? testing was conducted over three different types of SES satellites:

  • The NSS-703 inclined orbit satellite tests showed a 61% data rate increase on a 72 MHz transponder, which, for the first time, make fibre level broadcasting costs possible.
  • The NSS-5 power limited satellite tests showed up to 49% higher data rate over the current satellite space segment utilization. NovelSat's NS3?enabled NS1000 modulator and NS2000 demodulator allowed 'Satellite Mediaport Services' teleport to move into a higher constellation than it was capable of when using top of the line DVB-S2 devices.
  • The NSS-10 satellite saw similar results as the NSS-5 satellite when NS3? devices were enabled. NS3? again allowed the teleport to move to a higher constellation and provide up to 55% higher data rate over current satellite space segment utilization, which uses top of the line DVB-S2 devices.

"SES is committed to the constant search for the best innovations to technology so that we may continue to serve our customers with the highest possible level of service," said Simon Gatty Saunt, VP Sales Europe & Central Asia of SES. "Novelsat's NS3? satellite modulation technology definitively falls into that category by bringing fibre level costs to satellite broadcasting for the first time, while retaining the inherent value of satellite communications."

"For our customers this is a dream come true. For the first time in our industry we are able to offer data services over satellite for a lower rate than fibre, which will revolutionize communication cost from Europe to emerging markets." said Mr. Golod, CEO and founder of Satellite Mediaport Services.

"This testing shows that when NS3? is utilized by key players in the industry amazing results are possible," said Itzik Wulkan, CEO of Novelsat. "By working alongside SES and SMS, NovelSat's and NS3's? history of defying what is thought to be impossible continues, first by NS3? outperforming DVB-S2 and now by making satellite accessible at fibre level costs."
