Media Release Serco introduces new community gym with a lakeside view 29 January 2014

The National Watersports Centre (NWSC) in Nottinghamshire, one of the UK's premier sporting venues and outdoor leisure attractions, has combined the very latest sports and fitness equipment with breath taking views of the regatta lake to bring local residents and visitors to the City of Nottingham, a brand new indoor gym facility.
The new gym facility, which opened earlier this month, provides a range of the latest cardiovascular and resistance training equipment including a free weights area. Set in the grounds of the regatta lake where Team GB Olympic Slalomists undertake their training, the gym offers unique lakeside views, a flexible membership package and personal training sessions.
In April 2013 Serco was awarded the 21-year contract by Nottinghamshire County Council on behalf of the Holme Pierrepont Leisure Trust to manage, operate and improve the NWSC. Since then Serco has been working to deliver £6.7m worth of investment to enhance facilities across the 270 acre site including the construction of a number of new activities. These improvements will ensure that the National Water Sports Centre continues to be a top class sporting venue for the talented local and international athletes who train there as well as a superb community facility for local residents.
Other improvements include:

A refurbished main building with improved and enhanced accommodation, catering and conferencing facilities due to open April 2014

Campsite improvements including the addition of new outdoor wooden 'camping pods' set in small

community groups, which are already available on site

Refurbished changing facilities in both the Lake View main building and at the Slalom course

An exciting new "Sky trail" high ropes course that will challenge the whole family on a large-scale climbing adventure is due to be launched in April 2014

An adventure golf course located in the new 'family fun' area, plus a fantastic new cafe offering

within this area and side of the Regatta Lake from April 2014

New activities on site such as ECombat Outdoor Laser Tag and Segway and cycle hire are already available to book on site.

Councillor John Knight, Committee Chairman for Culture at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "It is
great news to hear that the new gym is now open at the National Water Sports Centre. The gym has a wide variety of state of the art fitness equipment and we wish the facility every success."
