ITE PARTNERS SATS TO DEVELOP CURRICULUM FOR THE NEW HIGHER NITEC IN PASSENGER SERVICES COURSE FOR THE AVIATION INDUSTRY

Passenger Services students to benefit from quality training, industry attachments, scholarship and enhanced staff capabilities

The pioneer Higher Nitec in Passenger Services course students already have much to look forward to when they start classes in April 2012. Students enrolling in this two-year course can enjoy authentic learning opportunities and will be equipped with quality service skills to do well in their careers in the tourism industry through a win-win partnership with SATS Ltd (SATS).
This afternoon, ITE and SATS inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop the new course curriculum, with the aim of honing the service skills and enhancing the professional competency of ITE students to up passenger service standards in the aviation sector. With the growing tourism arrivals and air traffic in Singapore, more service professionals with the right skills and attitude are needed. Also, being the first and the last point of contact for passengers as they arrive at and leave Singapore Changi Airport respectively, passenger service professionals can cast a lasting impression with their excellent service.
The three-year MOU provides for collaborative curriculum development, industrial attachments, as well as guest lectures and professional sharing sessions by SATS
personnel to ensure students are equipped with market-relevant skills to excel in their

jobs. Annually, SATS will also offer scholarships worth $9,600 each to three outstanding students from the Higher Nitec in Passenger Service course.
ITE and SATS staff are also set to benefit as both parties jointly develop training programmes to enhance staff capabilities in Passenger Services and other areas.
Mr Bruce Poh, Director and CEO, ITE, is delighted with the partnership and he said: "This win-win partnership will enable ITE to leverage on SATS expertise in passenger services to develop a new breed of skilled professionals who have the values, the skills and the service mindset to deliver outstanding service to tourists and customers from all walks of life, from all over the world".
Mr Tan Chuan Lye, Acting CEO of SATS, remarked, "Offering service experiences which exceed passengers' expectations is a SATS hallmark. Training staff to deliver exceptional service experiences is a process which requires continual improvement, and we believe that the best place to start the process is in school. The exposure to real-world conditions and access to industry personnel which we bring to the table, along with the educational excellence lent by ITE will ensure that together, we raise the bar of service standards in the aviation industry. We are looking forward to welcoming the first beneficiaries of this new course to our industry and into SATS."
