SALAMA Cooperative Insurance Company reported earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported net profit before Zakat of SAR 16,084,000 compared to net loss before Zakat of SAR 2,909,000 a year ago. Net written premiums were SAR 148,788,000 compared to SAR 76,056,000 a year ago. The reason for increase in profit in current quarter compared to same quarter previous year is due to increase in net earned premium by 38% and increase in total investment income from policyholder and shareholders' fund by 221% partly offset by increase in net claims incurred by 7% and increase in operating and general and administration expenses by 57%. For the year, the company reported net profit before Zakat of SAR 30,350,000 compared to SAR 3,078,000 a year ago. Net written premiums were SAR 543,098,000 compared to SAR 369,088,000 a year ago. Earnings per share were SAR 0.85 against SAR 0.1 a year ago.
