RWE has announced that the German and regional governments have granted the group funding for major hydrogen projects.

The Lingen electrolyser plant and the Epe hydrogen storage facility will be financed to the tune of 619 million euros. The Rostock electrolysis project will receive 199 million euros.

The funds are being provided by the German government and the Länder of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The funds will be used to build a 300 MW electrolyzer to produce green hydrogen in Lingen (Lower Saxony) as part of the GET H2 Nukleus project, as well as a hydrogen plant in Gronau-Epe (North Rhine-Westphalia).

A third round of financing was granted to a consortium developing a 100 MW electrolyser plant in the port of Rostock (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) as part of the HyTechHafen Rostock project. RWE is a member of this consortium.

RWE plans to invest an average of three-digit million euros in the three projects.

Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE said: 'Green electricity and hydrogen will be essential in making locations attractive to industry. It is therefore essential to invest without delay in hydrogen-producing electrolyzers in Germany and in the associated infrastructure, including storage facilities'.
