This facility represents an investment of 8.5 million euros and will make it possible to evacuate the renewable energy generated in nearby facilities.
Red Eléctrica, the subsidiary of Redeia responsible for transmission and operation of the Spanish electricity system, is finishing the building work for the new Almendrales 400 kV substation in Mequinenza (Zaragoza).
This infrastructure, built in a year and a half with an investment of 8.5 million euros, will enter service this July for the purpose of evacuating and integrating the renewable energy generated by the facilities in the region. In addition, 1.6 kilometres of double-circuit power lines have been installed to connect this transformation facility to the nearby 400 kV Aragon-Mequinenza line.
The Subdelegate of the Spanish Government in Zaragoza, Noelia Herrero, the General Director of Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Aragón, Yolanda Vallés, and the Mayor of Mequinenza, Antonio Sanjuán, visited the centre accompanied by Redeia's delegate in Aragón, José Ignacio Lallana, to learn about its main features.
This substation, which is included in the Electricity Transmission Grid Development Plan for 2021-2026, is Red Eléctrica's second facility in Mequinenza, as the company already runs another one located next to the nearby reservoir, which is the largest in all of Aragon.
As part of its commitment to sustainability and in connection with the extension of its facilities, Red Eléctrica has supported a range of social projects in the town, such as the expansion of the Santa Agatoclia Vocational Training Centre, so that it can offer new study programmes suited to the demands of local company.
