Online payment service PayPal is rolling out a new payment solution, Complete Payments, in Belgium as well. According to the company, this will make it easier for SMEs to offer payment options on their online stores.

In the news: Complete Payments allows you to let your customers pay with different options, such as PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

  • Complete Payments should provide "simplicity and security," cites Maarten Zwaan, director of PayPal Benelux. "We are aware of the concerns of online retailers, such as increasing conversion and increasing their sales."
  • According to figures from Becom, e-commerce sales increased 10.7 percent last year compared to 2022. In 2022, 81.76 percent of consumers still indicated a preference for national sellers. That doesn't seem to be continuing, a recent Comeos survey found that ordered packages come from abroad in three out of four cases.
  • PayPal says it can do something about that. "This solution is part of our desire to democratize access to tools previously reserved only for larger companies," Swan echoes. The hope, then, is that small, Belgian merchants will see their online sales increase.
  • Moreover, PayPal claims Complete Payments also provides access to advanced tools that can more easily detect fraud. Merchants can integrate the new solution into some of the larger e-commerce platforms. PrestaShop, among others, is jumping on the bandwagon.
