March 22, 2012

Company to introduce SurgiCount360™ at the 2012 AORN Congress
Newly expanded documentation and compliance tool for use with the Safety-Sponge® System
Strengthens core retained sponge prevention solution and is expected to provide the backbone for the expansion into other patient safety and cost reduction applications
IRVINE, CA, March 22nd, 2012 - SurgiCount Medical, Inc., the wholly-owned operating subsidiary of Patient Safety Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:PSTX, OTCQB:PSTX) today announced that it will be introducing SurgiCount360™, an expanded and enhanced documentation and compliance software tool for use with its market leading retained sponge solution, at the 2012 AORN Congress in New Orleans, March 24th - 28th.

The Safety-Sponge® System is currently used in more than 135 community, research and government hospitals across the U.S., including 6 of the 2011-2012 U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll recipients. The system is the only retained sponge solution available that provides users a complete documentation and compliance tool, including the ability to post-operatively confirm usage on every case and to account for each individual sponge before and after use in surgery. SurgiCount360™ expands and enhances this compliance capability by including a new user interface for simplified data access and review as well as a new, customizable email alert function designed to provide actionable information in certain situations with potential compliance or patient safety issues.

"We are excited to introduce SurgiCount360™ and believe the expanded functionality it brings users of the Safety-Sponge® System will help further improve their ability to offer the highest standard of patient care as well as provide them industry leading compliance documentation. Our users now have an improved ability to document the outcomes of their proactive efforts towards avoiding the most commonly reported surgical Adverse Event. Additionally, we expect to leverage the SurgiCount360™ platform to offer users of the Safety-Sponge® System additional patient safety, product utilization and operating room convenience applications beyond our core retained sponge prevention solution," stated Brian E. Stewart, President and Chief Executive Officer of Patient Safety Technologies, Inc.

Attendees of the 2012 AORN Congress can learn more about SurgiCount360™ and the Safety-Sponge® System by visiting the SurgiCount Medical in the Exhibit Hall at both #3353.
