Panasonic Corp. is considering selling tablet computers in India and smartphones in Nepal and Bangladesh within the year as part of its effort to restructure its mobile device business, which has been performing poorly in Japan. The company also plans to launch traditional flip cellphones in India after starting selling smartphones in the country last year.

Panasonic aims to sell 1.5 million mobile devices in the growing South Asian market in fiscal 2015, a five-fold increase on its sales forecast for the current fiscal year through March. The company aims to solidify its brand name in the region through mobile sales.
