Orica has today announced that it will commence the
restart of the Ammonia Plant at its Kooragang
Island site on Tuesday 3 January 2012.
Repair work on the plant was completed prior to
Christmas 2011, with pre start testing conducted
last week as a final check prior to start-up.
With all pre start activities now complete and with
independent technology experts onsite as of 3
January, the plant is now ready for restart.
Site Manager, Sean Winstone said, "We have had
a number of people on site over the Christmas and
New Year period who have continued to work through
the pre start testing, and we believe that we are
ready to restart the Ammonia Plant. The independent
technology experts will be onsite providing the
appropriate oversight.
"I would like to reiterate that we will take
as long as is necessary with the restart to ensure
that the Ammonia Plant is started safely. As we do
this we will continue to keep the community and our
customers informed," he said.
The Ammonia Plant is a key supplier of ammonia and
carbon dioxide to the agriculture, water supply,
food, dairy and medical sectors.
