Qtel expects strong demand from its business customers for enhanced corporate services, thanks to a new partnership with Akamai that will enable robust and secure cloud-based delivery services for videos, applications and websites.

Using Akamai's Intelligent Platform, Qtel will provide business customers -- particularly in the media, banking and e-commerce markets - with faster delivery of secure, cloud-based solutions such as cutting-edge video solutions, web-acceleration and mobile applications.

The Qtel Cloud is the leading-edge virtual computing platform in Qatar, providing cost-effect IT infrastructure, especially to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Businesses can enhance their communications capabilities using the Qtel Cloud, by leasing corporate applications for e-mail, collaborative content and document management and videoconferencing.

Thanks to Akamai's technology, the end users for Qtel's corporate clients will find much faster access to multimedia content, both online and on mobile devices.

The cloud-based content can be sourced from the nearest of Akamai's 100,000 servers on more than 1,100 networks in 80 countries around the world.

Mohammed Saleh H. Al Marri, Qtel's Chief Sales and Service Officer, said: "The partnership between the two companies is intended to provide Qatari corporations with access to Akamai's optimization and acceleration technologies through Qtel's Dedicated Sales Team. By serving content from a geographical location much closer to the end user, the content can be delivered much more efficiently and much faster. This benefits not only our corporate customers as content providers, but also their customers. This is another of the key partnerships we are pursuing to deliver enhanced services for all."

Soeren Lindkvist, Vice President Strategic Sales & Head of Emerging Markets for Akamai technologies in EMEA, said: "Akamai makes it easier for companies to be successful online by ensuring better performance, greater scale, and multi-layered security. We are glad to be working with a forward thinking company like Qtel. Customers trust our cloud platform, and we are confident that together, we can offer a high-performing user experience and secure delivery of e-business services to Qtel's customers."

Qtel expects strong demand for these enhanced services from a variety of customers, but especially those in media, banking and e-commerce.

These sectors all benefit from faster access to videos and websites, and will see increased demand in the near future as Qatar continues to grow its knowledge-based economy in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
