Ship propulsion systems with liquefied natural gas (LNG) is considered a promising future technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and thus making a significant contribution to the mobility and energy transition in shipping. Meyer Werft has already been using this propulsion technology for some time in the construction of new cruise vessels. A current example is the latest vessel of AIDA-Cruises, which was transferred to the North Sea in October. Specialists from onoff AG supported Meyer Werft in the important phase of pre-inspection of the LNG-powered propulsion system.

Specially qualified personnel who are competent in explosion protection testing are essential for the inspection of LNG plants. Meyer Werft relied here on the expertise of onoff AG. Specially trained onoff team members were on site. Together with the shipyard's engineers and the acceptance inspectors of the Italian classification society RINA, the inspections were successfully carried out. "We are proud that we were able to convince with our LNG competence and to continue the long-standing partnership with Meyer Werft," says Peter Salomon, Regional Sales Director of onoff automation services gmbh. Already in several joint projects of the Neptun Werft, which belongs to the Meyer Group, the onoff AG could successfully prove its expertise in the plant automation of gas tankers. The cooperation in the field of promising LNG propulsion technologies is the next consistent step.

Wide range of services

The shipping industry is one of the core areas of onoff AG. In addition to the planning and implementation of automation concepts and the maintenance and inspection of systems, onoff also offers special monitoring solutions that ensure effective and safe ship operation. With the specially developed condition management system InfoCarrier® RAMP, important conclusions can be drawn regarding emission avoidance and cost reduction by consistently recording and storing weather or temperature data, for example. In this way, onoff AG offers service from a single source and makes its contribution to more climate- and environmentally-friendly shipping.
