TOKYO - January 20, 2015 - Nomura Research Institute, Ltd., (NRI) a leading provider of consulting services and system solutions, today announced that its Tokyo Data Center I received the Management and Operations (M&O) Stamp of Approval from Uptime Institute on December 25, 2014, marking the first time that the certification has been given in Japan.

Developed by Uptime Institute, known for its TIER Standard, the M&O Stamp of Approval is a certification that validates the management and operations practices of data center facility management, based upon analysis of 20 years of data center outages in major data centers. As a standalone assessment, it helps to address the importance of measuring the sophistication level of facility operations and represents the single best opportunity for a firm to reduce its risk in data center management.

Earning this credential validates the rigor and effectiveness of NRI's Tokyo Data Center I, as well as its overall leadership in facility management and operations, thereby providing stakeholders with assurance that effective risk mitigation is in place.

"It is an honor to be the first organization in Japan to be recognized with the M&O Stamp of Approval certification from Uptime Institute," said Takuhito Sakata, Senior Managing Director of Data Center Management Division at NRI. "We understand the importance of having a robust and secure data center to ensure seamless operations for our clients. NRI continues to uphold the highest standards in order to best serve the organizations we work with and provide the best services through our highly trained teams."

The evaluation process for M&O certification is guided by five categories:

  • Staffing and Organization
  • Maintenance
  • Training
  • Planning, Coordination and Management
  • Operating Conditions

NRI's Tokyo Data Center I received high points in all five categories.
