Tele2 AB has selected Nokia as its vendor for 5G radio access network (RAN) deployment in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Together with Nokia, Tele2 will roll out the next generation of connectivity infrastructure throughout the Baltics, which will provide both consumers and businesses with better speeds and coverage combined with lower latency and higher reliability. Tele2 announced its partnership with Nokia for 5G core network deployment in January 2021.

In addition, Tele2 and Nokia has now decided to strengthen their partnership by also working together for the deployment of 5G RAN in the Baltics. The rollout of Tele2's nationwide 5G networks in each country will begin once sufficient spectrum has been acquired. As a part of the 5G rollout in the Baltics, the existing 4G networks will be significantly upgraded as well, with increased speeds and capacity combined with improved coverage in each country.

On 17 December 2021, the second and final part of the Latvian 700 MHz auction was concluded. In the first part, Tele2 won 703 MHz-713 MHz and 758 MHz-768 MHz from 1 February 2022 until 31 January 2042, to a sum of EUR 2.42 million. In the second part, Tele2 won 738-748 MHz from 1 February 2025 until 31 January 2042, to a sum of EUR 2.36 million.

As a result, Tele2 has now successfully acquired 5G spectrum in both the 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz bands in Latvia and has everything in place to start the rollout of nationwide 5G. In Estonia and Lithuania, both high and low frequency 5G auctions are expected to be conducted during 2022.
