Nokia announced on Tuesday that it had been selected by DARPA, the research agency of the US Department of Defense, as part of a lunar surface architecture project.

The telecom equipment supplier explains that it will collaborate with the 13 other companies participating in the 'LunA-10' program, which aims to lay the foundations for developing economic activity on the Moon.

The aim is to establish the necessary infrastructure for industrial and scientific projects in fields such as energy, transport and construction.

In this case, its subsidiary Nokia Bell Labs will be responsible for installing a reliable, high-performance communications infrastructure.

The program partners have set themselves the target of starting commercial operations on and around the lunar surface by 2035.

Nokia's share price on the Paris stock exchange rose by 1.5% following this announcement.
