Ethical hacking was one of the main topics of discussion during the recent Securi-Tay conference.

More than 100 delegates from education, law enforcement and industry descended on Dundee for the event which was organised by students on Abertay University's Ethical Hacking course.

The event, dubbed Scotland's largest cyber security conference, had a packed programme featuring talks from leading cyber security experts, analysis of mobile phone app security and discussions on protecting IT infrastructure.

Ollie Whitehouse, associate director at NCC Group, was one of the leading cyber security experts who took to the stage during the conference to give a keynote speech about real world threat modeling.

He said: "One of the two talks that we gave was on real world threat modeling. The purpose was to show how to think about system security and the possible attacks in a holistic manner."

Whitehouse used a virtual appliance-based product as an example but the approaches and techniques shown were applicable to any situation be it web, cloud mobile or traditional OS (Windows/Linux etc.).
