There are an estimated 1.5m unbanked customers in the UK and with the growth of Universal Credit all members of society are required to have a bank account which supports direct debits and standing orders.

The new fee-free Foundation account is available to individuals aged 18 years or over (16 years in specific circumstances) who are not eligible for any other current account in our range due to their credit score.

The account will allow customers to build a good credit history with the bank and progress through the credit system. A Visa debit card is issued with a Foundation account and can be used at any ATM, in store or online. Every transaction will be checked with the bank before being authorised to ensure the customer has funds available and does not risk going overdrawn.

Disclaimer

*Customers who are over the age of 16 can apply for the account if they are in receipt of Universal Credit or other related welfare benefits.
