The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a party in Plaza del Gas in Sabadell on Sunday 29 January at 11:30. The event will include a children's show from the musician Pep López, snacks and other surprises.

The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum combines a permanent exhibition with the organisation of temporary exhibitions, conferences, an educational programme for schools, activities for children and adults, and film and music festivals.

Nearly 500,000 users in five years

Since it was opened in 2012 the Gas Museum has been visited by nearly 500,000 people, both at its headquarters in Sabadell and via activities organised in other towns. 'Our cultural activities are noted for their commitment to promoting culture, supporting various events such the Embassa't Festival and organising other events itself, including the Pelis en familia film festival, the Vermuts del Embassa't music events and the La Fábrica de los deseos family activities,' said Gas Museum Director Eva Buch.

The Gas Museum also aims to preserve, study and publicise its collection and the Historical Archive of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, which, with over 3,000 metres of catalogued shelving, is considered one of the most significant corporate archives in the country. Furthermore, and fully aware of how important its collection is, the Gas Museum organises travelling exhibitions that visit other similar institutions throughout Spain.

Around 12% more visitors in 2016

In 2016 (its fifth year of being open to the public) the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum was visited by 135,540 people: 34,629 people visited the Gas Museum at its headquarters in Sabadell; and 100,911 people did so via the various activities organised in other municipalities. This figure represents growth of 12% on the previous year.

'This growth in the number of visitors beyond the walls of the Gas Museum itself came thanks to our schedule of special off-site activities, as well as its touring exhibitions that visited other Spanish institutions,' said the institution's director Eva Buch. Hence, in 2016, the exhibition La Belleza de la Máquina. Fotografia industrial de Ramon de Baños (1890-1980) was shown at the Puerto de Sagunto Civic Centre. Meanwhile, the exhibition Energía was shown at the La Estación Civic Centre in Vendrell (Barcelona), the Antoni Comas Library in Mataró and the Espacio Provença de los Ferrocarriles of the Regional Government of Catalonia in Barcelona.

Moreover, in order to bring the Gas Museum's activities to other municipalities, the institution promoted the Energytruck exhibition throughout 2016. This travelling exhibition visited over 100 towns throughout Spain with a truck powered by a natural gas twin engine, explaining this energy to visitors and how we can consume it responsibly.

In terms of the educational activities organised by the museum, the number and loyalty of students at all education levels was increased thanks to ongoing improvements to the educational workshops offered, the Energytruck tour, and a recognition of educational quality from the Education Science Institute of the Universidad de Barcelona. In total, over 43,278 schoolchildren from all over Spain took part in the education activities organised by the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum during the 2015/2016 academic year, which ended with an increase of 66% in the number of pupils taking part in its education programme.
