Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Sensor Platforms, Inc. announced they have had a collaborative relationship for over three years. The indoor navigation, activity-monitoring market will become a reality now that Murata and SPI have teamed up.

The newly developed best PDR (Pedestrian Dead Reckoning) algorithm by SPI, combined with Murata's high-accuracy, low-power, low noise MEMS technology (pressure sensor currently under development), will minimize the error over distance traveled, bringing much needed accuracy to the PDR market. It will lead to a first in consumer satisfaction. By using SPI's PDR function, customers are able to detect position, utilizing a variety of sensors with their algorithm.

With Murata's MEMS sensor high-accuracy height detection added into this function, it will enable precise Z-axis information, enabling users to freely move around the third dimension world. Minimum power consumption is always a critical issue for smartphone/tablet devices, however this will also be accomplished by utilizing both Murata's hardware and SPI's software.
