New Year Message by the President (Summary)
? Due to increasingly serious Euro crisis triggered by a
financial crisis in Greece and the downgrading of US
government bonds, the value of Japanese Yen remains at the
highest level in postwar history. Meanwhile, a sense of
uncertainty about the world economy is escalating as the
economy of the emerging nations, which has been the driving
force of the world economy in recent years, is showing
signs of changing trend.Also the environment surrounding
MES is changing as exemplified by the ongoing drastic
reorganization of related industries. These changes can be
called a "paradigm shift" in terms of business environment
where you cannot rely on conventional wisdom.
In order to survive such difficult management environment, it is important for us to accelerate our efforts on strengthening our international competitive edge by such means as cost down. It is also important to prepare ourselves for any possible situation and take necessary preventive measures.
??11 Mid-term Business Plan
In April last year, we started 2011 Mid-term Business Plan with fundamental concept being that ""Prepare for hard times ahead and reinforce business foundation for the future expansion in order to create new MES". In line with the strategy set out in the Mid-term plan, "Production Improvement Promotion Dept." and "Global Strategy Dept." were newly created.
To name a few achievements during last year, we started the construction of commercial production plant of cathodic material for lithium ion battery. Also significant is our receipt of an order for the first 66 BC of lower CO2 emission.
??In Conclusion
Last year marked30th anniversary of Oita Works, completion of new Tsukiji Head Office and moving of Plant & Environment Hq. to Makuhari. This year will see 50th anniversary of Chiba Works and 95th anniversary of Tamano Works. This year can be called a year to mark a watershed as to whether we can advance toward our 100th Anniversary Vision., I hope everyone to do his best to produce great result this year through teamwork, perseverance and commitment to your work.
With the motto of 2011 Mid-term Business Plan "Challenge and advance for the Future", every one of us is encouraged to work as a team to achieve the target of 2011 Mid-term business plan.
