TROY, Mich., (Jan. 10, 2012)- Two employees from Meritor, Inc. (NYSE: MTOR) were honored by the City of Troy on Jan. 9 for their role in raising funds for the Troy Public Library. Meritor is a leading global supplier of drivetrain, mobility, braking and aftermarket solutions for commercial vehicle and industrial markets.

The funds donated are being used to enhance the library's Special Needs collection. Specifically, the money will be used to purchase large-print materials, including novels for children ages eight to 12, non-fiction books on visual impairments and magnifiers to assist in reading. The materials will help children who have visual impairments such as albinism, dyslexia, ADHD, traveling eye, an inability to see color, and more.

Martha Remski, director, NA Supply Chain, and Laura Klemm, supervisor, Engineering, led Meritor's fundraising effort while participating in an Inforum leadership class. Inforum is a Michigan-based business forum for women which seeks to strengthen Michigan's business environment by creating opportunities for women to lead and succeed. As part of the class, they were required to tackle a community service project and chose to work with the Troy library and the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation (NOAH).

"Our project was to increase awareness and social acceptance of children with albinism," Klemm said. "As we interacted with them, we were touched by the vision difficulties that are common with these children. Armed with pictures and stories, it was easy to appeal to the generosity of the Meritor community and other private donors."

The Meritor Trust provided a donation to help the group with their goal, bringing total funds raised to more than $2,300 in support of the library, said Jerry Rush, senior director, Government and Community Relations.

"We have a history of providing assistance to the library and this kind of effort fits perfectly in with our desire to have our employees be involved in our communities," Rush said.
