Marvell Technology Group Ltd. announced an expansion to its groundbreaking AVANTA(R) product line, the Marvell(R) AVANTA LP MC-88F6601 Universal PON (UPON) low-power media converter. Designed to support single GE port single-family units (SFUs) and the rising popularity of passive optical networks (PONs) for residential broadband connectivity, the device supports Ethernet passive optical network (EPON), Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and Ethernet point-to-point broadband connectivity with a single, highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC). The 88F6601 media converter is specifically designed and focused to meet indoor and outdoor deployment requirements.
It provides a cost-effective solution tailored to meet highly constrained, world telecoms system specifications. The converter also offers a radical reduction in power consumption, providing an optimized fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solution for new optical network terminals (ONTs). At a glance, the 88F6601's features include: A fully integrated SoC-for cost-effective mass deployment of optical broadband, Seamless support for UPON MAC: GPON, EPON and P2P Ethernet-for cost and size savings and to leverage unified development and combined volumes, Marvell Embedded Voice Processing -for VoIP connectivity to industry-standard SLICs, enabled with Marvell's MMPv2 VoIP engine, IEEE-compliant energy-efficient Ethernet-for dynamic power management of active Ethernet link.
