In an effort to enhance the product development and merchandising of its consumer products categories and to maximize the success of Marvel branded products at retail, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL) has appointed Joann McLaughlin to the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Merchandising, and hired Susan Fields as Vice President, Merchandising. The announcement was made today by Paul Gitter, President of Consumer Products for North America, Marvel Entertainment, and Simon Philips, President of Marvel International.

Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Field's new positions reflect Marvel's objective to expand the focus of its licensing operations on product merchandising and design in an effort to position the company and its licensees for growth across all categories at retail. In their new roles, they will be responsible for managing all aspects of merchandising, with Ms. McLaughlin focusing on hardline categories in the United States and toys, games and related items internationally, and Ms. Fields focusing on softlines in North America. They will work with key category partners to develop seasonal line plans and product development calendars to ensure that each licensee's products meet the standards expected from the Marvel brand.

Additionally, they will help licensees expand from single sku programs to multi-sku lines and assist in the development and sourcing functions, as needed, in order to assure that products are of the highest quality. Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Fields also will play an instrumental role in Marvel's direct to retail initiatives, helping to merchandise and develop licensed product lines that reflect the company's overall brand strategy.

Ms. McLaughlin, who joined the company in 1992, most recently served as Co-Chief Operating Officer for the company's Marvel Toys division, managing the day-to-day operations of the toy division and supervising all product development. Previously, she served as Senior Vice President of Product Development for Marvel Toys. Ms. McLaughlin gained her experience working in the toy industry for more than 25 years at companies such as Knickerbocker Toy, Child Guidance, Matchbox and Marvel Toys. She currently resides in Edison, New Jersey with her husband and son.

Prior to joining Marvel, Ms. Fields was Chief Marketing, Merchandising, and Operating Officer for Scott Evans Consulting, a premier direct marketing company specializing in high-end private label consumer goods. Previously, Ms. Fields was General Manager of the Everlast Women's Division, where she was responsible for product development, merchandising, sales, and marketing. She has also held positions as President of Mid-Tier and Off Price for Nine West Accessories and Victoria + Co, subsidiaries of Jones Apparel Group, as well as Director of Sales, Marketing, and Retail for Vera Wang, Ltd. She currently resides in Manhattan, New York with her husband and two sons.
