Amersfoort, January 12, 2017 -- Mars One today releases a request for proposals for the media content production covering its astronaut selection round three. Mars One welcomes proposals from production companies with proven experience in creating high quality, factual storytelling for a global audience.

Mars One's third selection round is designed to trim down the remaining 100 Mars One astronaut candidates to forty through a series of team challenges. It will be the first time all candidates will meet in person and demonstrate their capabilities as a team. Candidates will start the group challenges in 10 groups of 10. These groups will change throughout Round Three and the selection round will end with 40 candidates.

'The challenges are designed to determine the candidate's key competencies. Additionally, individual debriefing sessions after each group challenge will provide us with insights into morale, motivation, norm settings, coping strategies and decision making', explains Dr. Norbert Kraft, Chief Medical Officer of Mars One and head of Mars One's Selection Committee. 'The production partner will have full access to all selection and evaluation activities during Selection Round Three. Although the production partner will not have any influence on the selection process and activities, we encourage proposals to include audience engagement during the selection round. Our expertise lays in crew selection, it will be the job of the our production partner to share this process with the world in the most exciting and engaging way.'

After Round Three, forty remaining Round Four Candidates will begin the isolation portion of the screening process. The results of the isolation challenge will reduce the forty candidates down to thirty who will then undergo the Mars Settler Suitability Interview. Up to 24 candidates will be selected after the interview and will be offered full-time employment with Mars One to start training for the mission of permanent settlement on Mars.

Bas Lansdorp, CEO and co-founder of Mars One says: 'Humans going to Mars will be one of the most exciting events of the 21st century. Our selection process is an important part of the preparations, and one that will inspire and educate. We're not looking to create a 'Big Brother on Mars' - the quality of the teams we select will always prevail over entertainment. Mars One's Selection Process is lead by a team of astronaut crew selection specialists that will maintain control of the selection process. Our aim is to find the best group of candidates to potentially become the first humans on Mars. By sharing this with the world via an exciting and inspiring TV or web series we'd like to engage a global community and share our mission to Mars with anyone who is interested in the next giant leap for mankind.'

The five-day Selection Round Three will take place between August and December 2017. The closing date for production proposal submissions is February 1st, 2017 - 9 AM CET. Submitted proposals are judged on a number of criteria, including but not limited to the international reach of the project, style and format, interactive elements, credentials of the production team, and budget. Suzanne Flinkenflögel, Director of Communications of Mars One says, 'We're looking for a production partner whose strength lies in factual, non-scripted storytelling to an international audience. Content proposals should find the right balance between being inspiring, informative, educational, and entertaining.'
